Trophimus

Why Trophimus?

Trophimus is a personal name, probably meaning “nutritious”. He was a Gentile christian from Ephesus who accompanied the Apostle Paul to Jerusalem for the presentation of the collection made by Greece, Macedonians, and Asia Minor believers (Acts 20:4-6; 21:29). Paul’s association with Trophimus led to the false charge that Paul had defiled the Temple by bringing a Gentile within the Court of Israel (Acts 21:19). It is not clear if the Trophimus whom Paul left in Miletus (2Ti 4:20) is the same person. For according to Acts, Paul did not pass by Miletus on his way to Rome unless Paul was released from the Roman imprisonment mentioned at the end of Acts and carried on further missionary activities.

Be that as it may, Trophimus name is mentioned only a few times  in the New Testament and almost unknown to many today. But his presence in Paul’s life has played a major role in the life and ministry of Paul that we know of today. For his presence in Jerusalem has led to Paul’s arrest and then his journey to Rome.

It is amazing how God can use everybody whether famous or not to accomplish his divine purpose!  God can use you and me too!
